The brief
A digital newspaper in the style of the big Indian and international dailies — with one hard rule: nothing goes live unless it can be traced to a source.
What we built
- A newsroom, not just a CMS. Reporters draft, editors review, and the API refuses to publish a story without at least one source link, a written verification note and an editor's confirmation. Corrections are dated and shown on the story.
- India in Data. Twenty charts — growth, jobs, poverty, education, health, internet, the rupee and corruption indicators — fetched straight from the World Bank, UNDP, the European Central Bank and Transparency International. The rupee updates every working day; monthly averages build themselves.
- Live TV and podcasts from official broadcaster channels and publishers' own RSS feeds, with attribution on every item.
- Every language. A language picker translates any page, with a notice that the English original is the verified version.
- Live cricket on a free data plan: one server-side call serves every reader, and the remaining API budget is spread across live play.
Under the hood
A NestJS API with PostgreSQL and scheduled jobs (daily data refresh, two-hourly podcast refresh, minute-by-minute cricket ticks), and a Next.js front end that is rebuilt only when content changes. Self-hosted on AWS behind Nginx with HTTPS, a sitemap, structured data and social previews.
